When your back hurts, it affects everything.
You lose that zest for life you once had because everything is shrouded in pain. It’s all too easy to slip into depression when the looming threat of pain touches every area of your life.
This is why back pain is so much more than a physical ailment for many people. And it’s also why it’s so crucial to find an effective treatment.
But here’s the problem.
Back pain can have many different causes, and therefore, it can also have many treatments. What works for one person may not work for another. But the important thing is to keep trying.
Pain relievers can work very well as a temporary solution, but they are not the answer.
So, let’s look at a few common treatments for back pain.
Movement
This one may feel counterintuitive, but most types of back pain respond well to movement. If you can perform some gentle exercises and/or stretching, that’s ideal. But if your back pain is severe, just try walking around a few times a day. There is such a thing as overdoing it, so be sure to rest if you’re feeling severe pain or fatigue.
Heat or ice
Ice can reduce inflammation and pain, while heat can help loosen tight muscles. You may want to alternate between heat and ice but try to keep each one on for a max of 15 minutes at a time.
Maintain good posture
Good posture is important in protecting your back from injury, so try to stand up tall whenever possible. If you’re struggling to maintain good posture or if you’re unsure whether you’re maintaining proper form, there’s help available. You can ask your chiropractor for tips or get a medical device designed to help you stand up straight. Just keep in mind that such devices are temporary until you can train yourself to maintain good posture again.
TENS
If you’re experiencing spasms, it’s probably a result of overuse. TENS is a solution that works well for many people. Our proprietary system combines TENS with Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) and auto-modulating pain-relieving waves. In order for your body to heal itself, it must get an adequate and stable level of oxygen saturation. This helps ensure the proper functioning of the organs, and Dr. Ho’s Pain Therapy System has been shown with Dear-Infrared Spectroscopy to increase tissue oxygenation.
Decompression Belt
Gentle traction can help decompress the spinal discs to relieve pain from pinched nerves and damaged discs. And when you relieve the pressure from these discs, they can accept more water, oxygen and nutrients to encourage healing. And not only will a decompression belt help your body heal, but it will also help relieve pain. The belt cradles your lower back and hips, taking some of the pressure off of this area.
